Strengthening Sponsorship Effectiveness in a Mature Sports Portfolio

How we helped Pauwels Sauzen evaluate its sponsorship approach and support future decision making through structured assessment.

Strengthening Sponsorship Effectiveness in a Mature Sports Portfolio

    Context

Pauwels Sauzen has built strong brand visibility in Belgium through a long standing commitment to cyclocross sponsorship. Over time, this presence has positioned the brand as a familiar and credible player within the sport.

As the portfolio matured, the focus shifted from visibility alone to understanding how sponsorship could be managed more deliberately as a business investment. Pauwels Sauzen engaged The Missing Link to provide an independent assessment of its sponsorship approach and to support future decision making.

    Our Role

The Missing Link acted as a strategic sparring partner, supporting Pauwels Sauzen with a structured evaluation of its sponsorship portfolio. The assignment focused on two areas:

    • Assessing how existing partnerships could be strengthened from a governance, measurement, and execution perspective
    • Exploring complementary platforms that could help the brand connect with younger audiences over time

The emphasis throughout the project was pragmatic. No blueprint strategy, but clear insights to support informed choices.

    Approach

We reviewed the sponsorship landscape in which Pauwels Sauzen operates, combining contract analysis, media evaluation, and a high level assessment of execution and activation. This allowed us to build an objective view of how sponsorship contributes to brand objectives today and where there is room to improve control, clarity, and measurability.

In parallel, we explored broader market dynamics and audience data to identify potential directions for future diversification, without disrupting what already works.

    Outcome

The project delivered Pauwels Sauzen a clearer framework to evaluate sponsorship performance and to approach future decisions with greater confidence. It provided a solid basis for internal discussions, renewals, and prioritisation, while respecting the strengths of the existing portfolio.

By connecting sponsorship more closely to measurement and decision making, Pauwels Sauzen is better positioned to treat partnerships as a long term strategic asset rather than a fixed marketing expense.
